LSUHSC-HDC seeks to hire an Assistant Teacher for the Early Learning Center. The Early Learning Center provides quality inclusive childcare to children ages 6 weeks to 48 months. Assistant Teacher will collaborate with other Early Learning Center staff to establish positive and safe inclusive learning and development environments for children (including children with disabilities) in a classroom. Assistant Teacher ensures the daily care of 8-12 children by following all licensing regulations and maintaining a clean and organized classroom. The Assistant Teacher provides input into assessment of child development and maintains daily open communication with families. The Assistant Teacher is able to bend and lift young children in and out of cribs, high chairs, and carry them to safety if necessary and actively engage young infants and toddlers at their level during daily activities.
Job duties will include collaborating with Lead Teacher to care for 8-12 children in a classroom. Implement daily classroom activities aligned with developmentally appropriate curriculum; assist all children including those with disabilities to participate in all classroom activities and routines, collect anecdotal data, maintain accident reports, report suspected abuse to supervisor, and inspect and remove damaged materials. The Assistant Teacher participates in Early Learning Center team meetings and parent conferences and maintains professional credential/ participates in professional development.
• Associate of Science degree in Care and Development of Young Children or related field
• At least 1 year of classroom experience in early care and education
Successful applicants will possess knowledge of family-centered and transdisciplinary practices and will demonstrate apptitudes for participation in team development, implementation and evaluation of professional development activities.
Preference will be given to applicants with any of the following: Child Development Associate credential; experience working in early intervention; working within an interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary model of service delivery; experience using coaching-based interventions; expereince with the Creative Curriculum, TS GOLD, and/or CLASS.
