What is Child Care Resources (CCR)?
Child Care Resources is a child care resource and referral service for metropolitan New Orleans.

It is a program of Agenda for Children, a statewide, non-profit child advocacy agency.

What services does Child Care Resources offer?
Child Care Resources provides parents with information about their child care options, including child care centers, family child care homes, summer camps, nursery schools, and before/after school programs. CCR also counsels parents about evaluating and locating quality child care. It conducts public education campaigns about the value of good child care and offers technical assistance to child care providers.

Who provides the information?
Parent counselors at Child Care Resources are trained, experienced early childhood professionals who have first-hand knowledge of child care in the New Orleans area.

How does the service work?

  1. When a parent calls Child Care Resources, a counselor discusses the kind of care the parent wants, where and when it is needed, and any other requirements of the family of the child.
  2. The counselor then refers the parent to at least three child care programs from a computerized database.

Child Care Resources does not recommend or endorse any agency or individual. We believe that parents are best able to choose the care they want for their children. Child Care Resources enables them to make an informed choice.

Who pays for the service?
Parents receive child care referrals free of charge. Child Care Resources was founded in 1989 through support from Mervyn’s, the Greater New Orleans Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, and The Greater New Orleans Foundation. Current sources of program funding include the Louisiana State Department of Social Services, the Louisiana Association for the Education of Young Children, individual and corporate contributions and employee benefit fees through Work/Family Directions and the Partnership Group.

How can the business community support this service?
Employers may contract with Child Care Resources to provide expert, fast child care referrals for their employees. Since child care problems are a major cause of work-force tardiness andabsenteeism, many employers across the country have recognized the value of such a service to help employees find good care for their children.
