Family Child Care Checklist

The Caregiver:

     The caregiver appears warm and friendly.

     The caregiver seems to like and enjoy children.

     The caregiver responds quickly to the children's needs.

     The caregiver is involved in setting up and supervising the children's activities.

     The caregiver sets reasonable and consistent limits.

     The caregiver is firm yet gentle when reprimanding children.

     The children receive individual attention.

     The caregiver has experience and/or training in working with children.

 General Atmosphere:

     The home is safe and well maintained.

     The setting is cheerful.

     The toys and equipment are safe and appropriate.

     There is adequate lighting and ventilation.

     Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are installed.

     Medicine and household products are locked away.

     Outdoor play area is safe and well-maintained and provides adequate space for children.

 The Program:

     Activities are varied and age appropriate.

     The daily routine provides a combination of quiet and active, indoor and outdoor times.

     Time for meals and naps are included in the daily schedule.

 Parent Involvement:

     Parents are welcome in the home.

     Parents talk, exchange ideas, and meet with the caregiver on a regular basis.

 The Service:

     The caregiver's hours are compatible with my needs.

     The number of children to adults is acceptable.

     Nutritious meals and snacks are served.

     References are provided upon request and references speak well of the program, the general atmosphere and the caregiver.

 THE CHILDREN APPEAR TO BE HAPPY HERE. I WOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE LEAVING MY CHILD HERE WHILE I AM AT WORK.
