COVID-19 Testing for Child Care Workers
Agenda for Children is partnering with Community Organized Response Effort (CORE) to provide weekly COVID-19 testing for child care workers, beginning in New Orleans. Testing is free for all. No ID or health insurance is required, and test results are available within 3-5 days via text or email.
The goal of this effort is to provide regular testing to all child care workers, which will help to identify cases early, and reduce the spread within centers.
Why should child care workers get tested regularly for COVID-19, whether or not they’re symptomatic?
Child care staff are frontline workers who experience frequent and prolonged exposure to children, co-workers and families who may be infected with the virus. It is estimated that at least 40% of COVID-19 infections are asymptomatic, meaning many people will not know if they are carrying the virus. Regular testing will ensure that any cases can be isolated and contained before spreading further to other staff, children or families.
How often should child care workers get tested?
Workers are encouraged to get tested once a week through this initiative.
