Covering Kids
& Families
Lousiana Covering Kids & Families
, a program of the Louisiana
Department of Health and Hospitals,
is a statewide initiative to increase the number of children
and adults who benefit from federal and state health care
coverage programs. (See details below about these programs
in Louisiana.) Agenda for Children manages the Greater New
Orleans regional coalition, providing outreach in Orleans,
St. Bernard, and East Jefferson parishes.
Covering Kids & Families is
proud to be a part of the successful progress made toward
reducing the number of uninsured children in our state. As
of September 2, 2007 over 625, 000 children have coverage,
nearly double the figure when the coverage program expansion
began in November 1998. Our contribution comes through our
working to link families to information to get and stay enrolled.
Our coalitions are made up of community organizations, state
and local agencies, schools & educators, health care providers,
business, social service, faith- based organizations, etc…
that work together to link families to the program. Also our
coalitions help to address policy concerns and renewal issues
that greatly impact families' abilities to maintain coverage.
