Annie E. Casey Foundation Releases 2008 KIDS COUNT Data Book: Louisiana Ranks 49th in Child Well-Being

The 2008 KIDS COUNT Data Book ranked Louisiana 49th among states based on 10 key indicators of child well-being. Since 2000, Louisiana has seen improvement in just two indicators of child well-being--the teen birth rate and the percentage of idle teens. Unfortunately, Louisiana declined on seven other measures, including infant mortality, the teen death rate, and the child poverty rate. This year’s report focuses on youth in the juvenile justice system and highlights promising practices in the field.

For more information, read the Louisiana press release or the Louisiana fact sheet. You can also visit the national KIDS COUNT web site to read the full report and view the data. For more information, or to request a copy of the report, please contact Judy Watts or Teresa Falgoust at 504-586-8509.
