FREE CPR classes now available

FREE online CPR classes are available through funding from LDOE. CCAP-certified family child care providers and staff from Type I, II and III centers in the parishes we serve can attend for free, but space is limited! If you are not eligible, you will be disenrolled in the class. Note that we currently serve centers in the following parishes: Assumption, Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Tammany, Terrebonne and Washington.

Welcome to spring and a full day of CLASS interactions! We are offering a full day of VIRTUAL sessions on April 10th focused on adult-child interactions. We have sessions to help introduce teachers to the Infant, Toddler, and PreK CLASS tools, as well as workshops to help veteran teachers and leaders learn new strategies to improve their interactions related to specific dimensions.

The Art of Conversing - Preschool

April 10, 2021 – 8:00 am – 10:00 am
For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
Designed specifically to help preschool teachers develop strategies in creating language-rich conversation that support children's oral language development, this workshop provides background knowledge, exploration, and real-life application in the art of conversing with preschool children. We will discuss key research-based findings about oral language development, utilize Language Modeling indicators to describe best practices for language and vocabulary development, and practice ways to create engaging conversations throughout the classroom. Infant CLASS Overview

For Infant Teachers and Leaders
Have you ever wondered what those CLASS observers are looking for when they visit your classroom? Or are you a new teacher? If so, Infant CLASS Overview is just what you need! This workshop will provide you with an introduction to the Infant CLASS tool so you can learn what CLASS observations are and why Louisiana uses them to measure program quality. This workshop will also help you connect CLASS to your knowledge of how infants develop and learn. We will do a deeper dive into the Dimensions of Infant CLASS. CDA Subject Areas: 3, 4 & 8 

Intentional Teaching in the Infant Classroom

Engage your children by taking an active role in facilitating infants’ experiences. Learn how to support infant growth and development through well-managed activities and routines. Toddler CLASS- Engaged Support for Learning Overview

Engage your busy and curious toddlers by taking an active role in facilitating their experiences. Learn how to support children’s growth and development in both activities and routines. Specifically, we will explore strategies related to the Facilitation of Learning and Development, Quality of Feedback and Language Modeling dimensions of the Toddler CLASS tool.    CDA Subject Area 3.

PreK CLASS Instructional Support Overview

For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
Want to develop a deeper understanding of Instructional Support? Come to this workshop and learn about how Instructional Support is not focused on curriculum content or specific learning activities but, instead, looks at how teachers implement curriculum lessons and activities to facilitate and support children’s thinking and language throughout the day. Teachers will learn how to engage with children in ways that help deepen their understanding, learn to problem solve, think, and reason, and promote more complex language. Teachers will leave with strategies to use to provide feedback that expands children’s learning and their participation in learning activities.    CDA Subject Areas: 2,3,8

Medication Administration - 3 hours

April 10, 2021 – 8:00-11:00 am
For All Teachers and Leaders
This workshop session meets Office of Public Health requirements for health and safety. It is required for early learning center staff who administer medication to children in their center and is also required for family child care providers who administer medication to children. This session enables staff to administer medication for two years; however, the 3-hour certificate counts toward clock hours for only the year in which the training was received. CDA Subject Area: 1, 4,5,6 - ADM Category: 1, 3, 5, 6

Infectious Diseases - 3 hours

April 10, 2021 – 8:00-11:00 am
For All Teachers and Leaders
This 3 hour workshop focuses on common infectious diseases experienced by young children.  While infections are a normal part of growth and development, efforts to decrease spread and to prevent complications are important.  The workshop will highlight infectious diseases such as influenza, common cold, rotavirus, pink-eye and other infectious diseases.  Enrollment is limited to 25 participants. CDA Subject Area: 1 - Health & Safety; ADM 1

Fostering Children’s Thinking Skills in Preschool

April 10, 2021 – 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
This workshop provides you with three strategies you can use to foster children thinking: using the scientific method, problem-solving, and applying knowledge. Participants will watch video clips that illustrate interactions where teachers foster children’s thinking skills and engage in learning activities that provide opportunities to discuss examples of and practice applying the strategies that are introduced.   CDA Subject Areas: 2,7,8 

Language is Key for Infants and Toddlers

April 10, 2021 – 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
For Infant and Toddler Teachers and Leaders
This workshop is designed specifically to help infant and toddler teachers develop strategies to create language-rich environments for the children in their care. Participants will learn how to support infants’ and toddlers’ language development using books and during play. Participants will look at Infant CLASS Early Language Support and Toddler CLASS Language Modeling indicators to understand and practice how to engage in language facilitation and stimulation throughout the day and throughout the classroom too! Toddler CLASS – All About Quality of Feedback

For Toddler Teachers and Leaders
Quality of Feedback is all about responding to what children say and do in ways that deepen their understanding or encourage them to persist. If you ever find yourself wondering how you can put this into everyday practice, this session is for you! By the end of this workshop, you will have a better understanding of the Toddler CLASS Dimension Quality of Feedback and lots of strategies to use in your classroom as soon as you get back.    CDA Subject Areas: 2, 3, 8 

PreK CLASS Dimensions Workshop Featuring Quality of Feedback

For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
Confused about Quality of Feedback? Want to hear and see it in action? This session will help you better understand the Quality of Feedback dimension within the Instructional Support domain of the CLASS tool. Learn how to move beyond "good job" so that children can deepen their learning, while also increasing their persistence and participation in activities. This workshop includes practice identifying classroom interactions associated with Quality of Feedback indicators and behavior markers. Together, we will reflect on our current classroom practices and create action steps for future interactions.   CDA Subject Areas: 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8

PreK CLASS Every Day and Every Way

For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
Learn how CLASS indicators and behaviors are used throughout the day in everyday activities and routines. High-quality interactions can (and should) happen at almost every moment of the day, from the time a child arrives in the morning until they leave in the afternoon. You can use CLASS to guide your interactions with children throughout their daily routines, including center time, snacks and meals, clean-up and circle time. This session is very interactive, so participants should come with a general understanding of CLASS and be ready to put knowledge into action! CDA Subject Areas: 2, 3, 8

12 PM - 3 PM SESSION

Food Safety/Universal Precautions – 3 hours

March 6, 2021 – 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
For All Teachers and Leaders
The food safety section of this session meets the Office of Public Health requirements for health and safety and is required for all staff involved with food services. The universal precautions section of this workshop session meets the OPH requirements for Health and Safety and is required for all staff. Help control the spread of germs and sickness in your care environment by diligently employing methods taught in this session. At the end of the training the participants will be able to demonstrate all the steps in proper hand washing, verbalize the difference between disinfection and sanitation, appreciate the importance of proper food handling, and understand the dangers of not taking necessary precautions and proper sanitation. Talk to Me Baby! Early Language Support for Infants

April 10, 2021 – 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
For Infant Teachers and Leaders
Gain a deeper understanding of the Infant CLASS ® tool and high-quality teacher-child interactions by practicing realistic strategies for implementing self-talk, imitating and initiating sounds or words; modeling turn-taking, and effectively using toys for expansion and extension of language. This training will also show how early language support strategies connect other Infant CLASS ® dimensions.  CDA Subject Areas: 3, 4 

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in Preschool

April 10, 2021 – 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
For Preschool Teachers and Leaders
Participants will learn how to broaden children's understanding rather than concentrating solely on recalling facts and getting the “right answer.” We will use Bloom's Taxonomy to explore the relationship between concept development strategies and higher-order thinking skills. Participants will explore how to use a children's text to plan future conversations and lesson activities that promote problem solving and critical thinking skills. CDA Subject Areas: 2, 8
